Hello, my friends.
TL;DR - this Premier League offseason I fought mold remediation, a kid’s toenail infection, a nanny vacation, all three of us getting Covid, and then my sister in law showing up with Covid a week later, a horrible work project with a horrible client that is kicking the ever living shit out of me and my soul, winning 4 Lions at Cannes, that loss to Real Madrid, the Mets and Guardians some fucking how being in first place, a trip to New England to meet some twins a month younger than our kid, teething at least 1 more tooth, two NYC primaries, looking at way too many apartments we cannot possibly afford, and I fought City Hall twice and won both times.
So, how was your summer vacation?
I’m boarding a plane at Newark in like 6 hours to fly to Chicago, to fly to Green Bay, to drive to Door County, Wisconsin. To stroll straight into my only nephew’s wedding. To crash on the floor of my sister and brother in law’s room. To get up at 5 am Sunday and drive back to Green Bay, to fly back to Chicago, to fly back to Newark, to deliver a mattress pad to my cousin’s grandson who is restarting his freshman year at NYU.
Which is to say, I won’t be watching any of the matches tomorrow, or the matches Sunday. And, also, my kid turns one whole goddamned year old this Thursday, and then we hit Labor Day weekend.
(if you’re in the greater NYC area, you’re invited to the kid’s birthday party next Saturday, if you ask nicely in the comments.)
And between this moment now, and the end of Labor Day weekend, we’re going to get three (3!) game weeks in. Holy shit. Liverpool could be sitting on 4 points by the end of this thing!
But, I miss doing this, and I miss all of you. And I miss thinking a bit about the footy before it happens. And I miss watching matches with the goal of talking about the matches. So this will be little more than just TV listings. But goddamnit, it’s something.
So far in each of the first 3 match weeks, there have been at least 3 matches that have made me say, “holy shit! I am so glad I am a Premier League fan! What an amazing match!”
Also, in those weeks there has been 1 Liverpool match.
The Reds have played terribly. I will not sugar coat it.
Do I think it’s terminal? Yeah, always.
Is it really this time? Of course it is.
Also, I’m about 30 percent sure Spurs will win the league this year. I’m so sure of it, I have none of them on my fantasy team; “I’m just here for the the oil money.”

OK, sleep seems like a good idea.
Take care of yourself, and each other. I’ll comment as I comment, and I keep thinking this week I’ll crank out my guide to being a first time, first year parent. It’ll be something none of you get anything from.
